Austin Healey 3000, rare 3 carb model

This is a rare Austin Healey 3000 3 carb model with center shift gearbox. The very attractive black - red paint in excellent quality make it a real eye-catcher.

The first Austin Healey, model 100, was revealed in 1952 at the ‘Earls Court Motorshow’ in the UK. Because of the big success of this car they had to make another model, but now with a six cylinder engine. This model was called the 100-6. Because of the heavier 6-cylinder engine which had limited power the performance of the car in comparison with the older model was lower.

In 1957 the lower performance problem was solved because of a change of the intake pipe. Medium 1959 the 100-6 model was relieved by an new model. The cylinder displacement of the 6-cylinder was enlarged and the car was suited with disc brakes at the front. In 1961 de Austin Healey was further developed and the engine was suited with a new intake pipe with 3 carburetors. Also the gearbox was adapted. The car here advertised is such a model.

The 3 carburetors version was limited build. Of the BT7 type only 5.096 with the three carburetors left the Abingdon factory.

In 1962 the Austin Healey MK II A BJ7 came on the market. Unfortunately they stopped with the 3e carburetor, the car was restyled with a new front window and a convertible top. The power of the new model dropped with 1 hp to 131 hp.
