The Porsche 911 G models were built from 1974 to 1989 and were available in different versions. After 20 years of production of the 911 it was expected in 1984 that Porsche would come with a completely new model to replace the first 911 series. But the launch of the Porsche Carrera 3.2 made it clear that Porsche was not ready yet with the first series. The Carrera 3.2 was produced from 1984 until 1989 and was the successor of the very successful 911 SC.

The 911 Carrera 3.2 is the last version from the original 911 series and was carried out with a new higher-displacement 3164 cc six cylinder engine. This new engine with a new intake manifold, new exhaust system and a new crankshaft (from the 3.3 liter engine) gave the car a power output of 231 hp.

This gave the car an acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 242 km/h.
In 1987 the Carrera was given a new five- speed gearbox from GETRAG (model no. G50) which had a hydraulic clutch. This same gearbox was also placed in the last Porsche 930 turbo models delivered in 1989. To give the car a good stopping power larger brake discs were mounted which had more effective heat dissipation.

In total, 19.987 cabriolet versions of the 911 Carrera 3.2 were build. In the last year of production (1989) 1003 convertibles were build.
